Femme Bass Mafia (FBM) is the project of a passionate music crew that aims to provide a safer space for women, trans and non-binary people for the learning and practising of DJing and music production. Our goal is to support our adelphs
in sharing their vision of bass music.

WHY SUPPORTING OUR ADELPHS?

At FBM we believe in adelphity, which refers to both sisterhood and brotherhood without distinction of sex or gender. It supposes supportive and balanced relations between people. We like the idea of sisterhood, but we believe it’s not inclusive enough to diversify the scene. This is why we chose adelphity.
We can’t stress enough how important it is to support the underrepresented artists and implement gender equality in the music industry. We want to give our participants the keys and the power to step in. This is why we create a mentorship program led by and addressing women, trans and non-binary people, because we want to initiate more adelphity in teaching & learning processes. We wish to welcome people who want to replace competition by cooperation. Beyond the obvious motivation of inclusion, we also believe that it contributes to the artistic diversification of DJing.

OUR VALUES

We do encourage eclectic selections, but we are also here to celebrate the diversity of bass music – the up-tempo world that consists of Electro, Drum and Bass, Jungle, Breaks, UK Bass, Dubstep, Garage, Juke, Footwork & more. We trust that including a more diverse and inclusive artistic presence among these genres is essential.

We want to provide a safer space for women, trans and non-binary people in the practice of DJing. We pay special attention to avoid mechanisms of domination of any kind. We are among others referring to terms such as manterrupting, mansplaining and other subtle actions which lead to invisibilize women and marginalised genders. The help of our allies aka. cis-men will be gracefully accepted and supported, as soon as they share our agreement and values. We care about the integrity of our mentors: they relate to the safer space principles established by FBM and an ongoing exchange within the team enables the renewment of trust.

DJ PROGRAM

By mentorship we mean that DJs, Producers and music passionate people will be sharing their skills and experience with our participants. We will offer a series of workshops divided into three essential parts: theory, practice, as well as workshops focused on the mentees’ artistic and personal development. By the end of the FBM mentoring program, we are aiming for the participants to be able and feel comfortable playing a full-length set, live, online or pre-recorded.

We are always happy to welcome motivated peers to share and transfer knowledge. Even if you’ve never done that before! Our goal is for everyone to have a safer space in which to practice, ask questions and make like-minded connections

MUSIC PRODUCTION PROGRAM

Our music production program is structured into three key components: theory, practice, and specialized sessions focusing on advanced production techniques, as well as mixing and mastering. These workshops will be available in both in-person sessions with one of our experienced FBM mentors and online sessions facilitated by a certified Ableton Trainer.

Our primary objective with the FBM mentoring program is to equip participants with the skills and knowledge necessary to create polished and professional-grade tracks. By the program’s conclusion, our aim is for participants to have successfully produced a finished track or be well on their way to achieving this milestone.
