You want to know how to apply to one of our programs, where to contact us or what FBM actually is? Our FAQ section will provide the answers to the most asked questions.

What is Femme Bass Mafia?

Femme Bass Mafia is a DJ mentoring and music production program for femme, trans and non-binary people, with a focus on bass music and the creation of safer learning spaces.

How does it work?

FBM launches an open call twice a year to seek for new mentees for each the DJ and music production mentoring programs. Via an application form, you can apply to the program. The application includes a few questions about yourself, your relationship to the community, to bass music, and general availability.

After FBM goes through the applications, we choose 6 people to take part in the program. We organise 1-1 short interviews and ask our participants to sign an agreement before they join the program.

When is the next application round?

Applications for the DJ mentoring cycle of 2024 are closed. Keep your eyes peeled for our next music production mentoring application later this year.

Do I need to have experience to apply?

No! We will prioritise people with little to no experience nor access to DJing or music production.

How long does the DJ program last for?

We elaborated a 6 month program that allows our mentees to learn and progress. We host workshops every 2 weeks, during weeknights or weekends.

How long does the music production program last for?

We elaborated a 3 month program in collaboration with Ableton that allows our mentees to learn the basics of music production, mixing and mastering and some more advanced production techniques. We host in-person-workshops every 2 weeks, during weeknights or weekends and online classes via Ableton in between.

Can I apply if I don’t live in Berlin?

Unfortunately we will only take applications from people residing in Berlin full-time.

Are the programs for free?

Yes the programs are for free.

Why does FBM focus on bass music?

Our initiative is especially meaningful when it comes to bass music, which is close to our hearts by taste, and is our main field of action as we have noticed a global lack of representation behind the decks or on the production side of things, but also in Berlin in general, where the traditional techno & house are programmed in larger quantities.
