Community & Sound – Sept/Oct 2025

After a wholesome first cycle back in May around the topic of Progress & Sustainability, we’re almost ready to run our second program of the year.
Starting this September, we’re launching an 8-week program focused on understanding, assembling and running sound system events.
The course includes hands-on workshop time dedicated to building an FBM system, alongside panel talks from trusted industry professionals in our community. Topics will cover the history of sound system culture, organising sound-heavy events, fostering community, and exploring key electro-acoustic concepts.
Duration: 8 weeks.
Week 1: Wednesday 10th of September 19:00 – 21:00
Community & Sound: Soundsystem Culture with Rishi (Outlook Festival) & Aarti (Dub & Dal)
This session looks at soundsystem culture as a space for community building, cultural expression and engagement. Rishi and Aarti share how their work has been shaped by the values and history of sound culture – from curating events and building platforms to holding space for others.
Week 2: Wednesday 17th of September 19:00 – 21:00
Talking Bass: Sound, Space & Audience with Steph (musik matter / Deep Medi) & Darwin (Abyss / REEF)
This session is a practical conversation about how to design events that centre sound. Darwin and Stef will share experiences from their own work – covering everything from sound quality and system choice to how space, intention, and audience shape the experience. We’ll also touch on how to build scenes that prioritise listening, and what it takes to keep that energy consistent over time.
Week 3: Wednesday 24th of September 19:00 – 21:00 @Online
Building a Soundsystem: Practice, Infrastructure & Collective Culture with Huw (Sinai Sound) & Jan-Loup (Le Comité des Fêtes)
What goes into building and maintaining a soundsystem – both technically and socially? This session brings together two crews to share what they’ve learned through hands-on experience. We’ll talk about setup, logistics, crew dynamics, and how to sustain a system over time in ways that reflect the community it serves.

NOTES:
Please note that this is a Berlin based initiative and destined to people residing here full time. We will communicate the location for all the workshops shortly.
The main language of this program and its classes is English. It is mandatory that your level of English is advanced enough to understand more complex topics and converse fluently
COSTS:
In order to honour our funding plans, and to keep evolving, nurturing talent, and giving back to the bass community as much as we can, there will be a small participation fee for the first time.
We’re asking for a sliding scale contribution of €10–15 per session, meaning a minimum of 70€ for the full program. If you’re able to give more, it supports others who may not be in the same position financially and helps us keep our funding. That said, we’re holding space for low-income applicants ! No one will be turned away for lack of funds. Just let us know in the application form.
NB: This mentoring program is organised and powered during our free time, aside from our main professional activities. It takes us effort and time to provide courses, locations, and mentors. While we understand that life happens, we still require commitment to the program and a steady attendance.
OUR VISION:
Femme Bass Mafia is all about providing a safer space for anyone identifying as a FLINTA* person. It is important for us that you understand and agree with our teaching approach and the notion of safer spaces, replacing competition with cooperation, communication and support.
Aside from our general mission, FBM holds a specific sound close to its heart – we aim at diversifying the bass scene in Berlin and beyond: this means that we focus on the vast range of bass music genres as a crew (breaks, drum and bass, jungle, dubstep, UK bass, footwork, etc…) as this is how FBM always intended to be. If this scene doesn’t seem to be for you, please reconsider applying.
Since we wish to accompany each of you and ensure the best learning conditions, we limit each round to a small number of participants.
CONTACT:
After we went through all the applications, we will contact the 15 candidates.
- Deadline for applications: tUESDAY August 19th 2025 at 23:59 CET.
